The owner of B. Braun Taiwan envisioned an office that encourages communication and interaction among employees. As a company in the medical industry, it was also important to create a space that reflects simplicity and brightness, promoting a healthy working environment. To achieve this, the design team opted for an open-plan layout with partition-free spaces, allowing the exterior vista and changes of seasons to seamlessly merge with the interior.
One of the key strengths of this design lies in its focus on functionality. Each individual area within the office has been carefully defined through the use of glass partitions and office furniture, allowing for the development of specific functionalities. This approach ensures that the space is not only visually appealing but also serves the practical needs of the employees.
The materials used in the B. Braun Taiwan office contribute to its unique properties. Fiber-board, stainless steel, iron metalwork, white-colored glass, manmade rock, square carpet, and scratch-proof floorboards were employed to create a modern and durable environment. These materials not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the space but also ensure longevity and ease of maintenance.
Located on the 9th floor of an office tower, the B. Braun Taiwan office spans an area of 570 square meters. The design team, led by Wan Pu Sung, collaborated with Max Huang, Jacob Hsu, and Amber Yeh to bring this project to life.
The design of the B. Braun Taiwan office takes into consideration the comfort and flexibility of its employees. The previous warehouse on the 12th floor was temporarily converted into office space during the interior renovation. To address the challenges of maintaining carpeted floors in Taiwan's damp climate, scratch-proof floorboards were chosen as a practical alternative. Additionally, the design team aimed to create a working environment that exudes a sense of home-like comfort while accommodating the growing needs of the staff.
The B. Braun Taiwan office project was completed in December 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan. The design team conducted extensive research to understand the client's requirements and reflect the company's values. The predominantly white and grey tones of the space were complemented with touches of green and purple, which are key elements of the brand's visual identity. This combination creates a pure, bright, and healthy ambiance within an industrial-style setting.
The B. Braun Taiwan office design presented several challenges that the design team successfully overcame. The adjustable tables in the working area required a unique furniture system, which was tailor-made in collaboration with furniture makers. The design team also addressed the need for quiet spaces for phone conversations and meetings in an open environment by creating three individual acoustically sound-proof phone booths and meeting rooms. Furthermore, the concept of a completely open working space posed psychological challenges for the staff, requiring effective communication and explanation to gain their acceptance.
The B. Braun Taiwan office design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2018 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that meet professional and industrial requirements while integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics. The B. Braun Taiwan office design stands as a testament to the successful integration of functionality, aesthetics, and employee well-being.
